U15 Division 3 Semi Final Hills Spirit FC vs Rouse Hill Rams

The fog hanging over the ground before kickoff looked like it might make photographing the U15 Division 3 KO Final between Hills Spirit FC and Rouse Hill Rams interesting for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully, within about 15 minutes of play it had lifted, leaving behind an overcast morning and much better conditions to capture a hard-fought finals contest.
Hills Spirit came out with plenty of intent. The opening 15 minutes were dominated by repeated attacking raids into the Rams’ defensive third, with Spirit applying pressure and looking for an early breakthrough. Rams were forced to defend for long stretches but continued to turn the attacks away, keeping the game scoreless while they found their feet.
As the first half wore on, the balance began to shift. Rams became increasingly comfortable working the ball forward and started finding their way into Spirit’s final third. Strong runs through midfield created a couple of opportunities before the break, although clear shots on goal remained difficult to find. Spirit remained dangerous on the counter, ensuring the Rams couldn’t afford to switch off whenever they pushed numbers forward.
After everything thrown at both defences, the teams went into half time locked at 0–0.
Spirit again began the second half on the front foot, spending plenty of time around the Rams’ defensive area. Eventually the sustained pressure produced the breakthrough. A ball that couldn’t be cleared quickly enough inside the defensive third gave Spirit the opportunity they had been searching for, and they capitalised to take a 1–0 lead.
The second came not long afterwards and this time it was a well-constructed attacking move. Spirit worked the ball into space before delivering a quality cross to an unmarked striker, who made no mistake with the finish to double the advantage.
Rams continued to compete, but Spirit’s early second-half goals proved enough to decide the contest, with Hills Spirit closing out a 2–0 victory and bringing the Rams’ finals run to an end.
Finals football always brings something extra to photograph. The early defensive pressure, midfield battles and reactions as the goals finally arrived told the story of a match that was much tighter than the opening stages might have suggested.
