The U21 Division 4 Grand Final between Rouse Hill Rams and Glenhaven didn’t take long to find its edge. Both sides spent the opening minutes settling into the contest before one quick Rams break changed the complexion of the game.

Around six minutes in, Rams found space on the counter and made it count, breaking through to find the back of the net and take an early 1–0 lead.

From there, the Grand Final developed into a much more physical battle.

Play moved regularly from one end of the field to the other, with neither side able to establish long periods of control. Strong challenges became a feature of the half and the referee was kept busy as a steady stream of fouls and free kicks repeatedly interrupted the flow of the game.

That physicality made for plenty of tightly contested moments through midfield. Every loose ball seemed to bring another challenge, while both sides looked for opportunities to quickly turn possession into an attack whenever space opened up.

For all the back-and-forth football, that early Rams goal remained the difference as the teams headed into half time with the score still 1–0.

The second half continued in much the same way. Glenhaven searched for a route back into the contest while Rams tried to protect their advantage and find another opportunity to put some distance between the sides.

The tackles kept coming too.

With barely five minutes remaining, after plenty of physical challenges throughout the afternoon, the referee finally reached for a yellow card. With the margin still only one goal, every free kick, challenge and turnover suddenly carried even more weight.

Glenhaven weren’t finished.

With around a minute remaining, they had one final opportunity to rescue the Grand Final and potentially send the match beyond regulation time. Rams held firm one last time, keeping the ball out and protecting the narrowest of leads.

The final whistle confirmed it.
