NSWCFA Reserve Grade St Columbas vs Wentworthville

Premier League Football Photography

Football photography from the NSWCFA Premier League Reserve Grade clash between St Columbas and Wentworthville.

Having played in the NSWCFA many years ago, it was great to be back around the grounds—this time with a camera instead of boots. The Premier League Reserve Grade clash between St Columbas and Wentworthville delivered an entertaining contest that rewarded patience and persistence right until the closing stages.

Wentworthville struck first during the opening half, forcing St Columbas to chase the game despite enjoying long periods of possession. The home side had a golden opportunity to level the scores before the break when they were awarded a penalty, but the Wentworthville goalkeeper produced an important save to preserve the lead heading into half time.

Despite the setback, St Columbas never changed their approach. They continued to move the ball confidently, controlling possession and patiently building attacks through midfield. While Wentworthville remained dangerous whenever they broke forward, much of the game was played with St Columbas asking questions of the defence.

From a football photography perspective, the match provided plenty of variety. Midfield battles, determined defensive efforts and emotional reactions after key moments all combined to tell the story of the afternoon. As the pressure continued to build, it felt increasingly like St Columbas were edging closer to the breakthrough they had been searching for.

That breakthrough finally arrived late in the game, drawing a huge response from teammates and supporters alike. Soon after, another penalty presented an opportunity to complete the comeback. The same player who had seen his first-half penalty saved stepped forward once again, this time making no mistake and calmly converting to seal a dramatic turnaround.

It was a result built on persistence rather than panic, with St Columbas rewarded for controlling large portions of possession while continuing to believe their opportunities would come.

Being back around the NSWCFA was a reminder of just how much quality football and community spirit exists throughout the competition. From a photographer’s perspective, it was great to revisit a league that played such a big part in my own football journey.

If your club, team or association is looking to capture moments like these throughout the season, I’m regularly photographing football across Sydney and have bookings available for upcoming fixtures.
