The U13 Division 1 Grand Final brought Rouse Hill Rams and Norwest together once again, with the Rams getting another opportunity against the side that has set the benchmark for the competition throughout the season.

The opening half was a genuine back-and-forth contest. Norwest probably enjoyed slightly more of the possession, but Rams remained resolute defensively and worked hard to shut down their counterattacks before they could develop into clear opportunities.

Both sides had moments going forward without either being able to establish complete control. With the pressure of a Grand Final hanging over every challenge and turnover, there was little room for error and neither team could find the breakthrough before the break.

0–0 at half time, and everything still to play for.

The second half initially continued along the same lines, but eventually Norwest found the opening they had been searching for. A player found herself with a little too much space and produced an excellent finish, driving the ball across goal and into the opposite bottom corner to make it 1–0.

That goal changed the game.

Within the next five to ten minutes, an unfortunate defensive mistake left another Norwest attacker one-on-one with the goalkeeper. She made no mistake with the opportunity, finishing calmly to double the advantage.

More noticeable than the scoreboard, though, was what happened after the first goal.

Norwest seemed to find another gear. They began controlling possession, winning more of the contested ball and dictating where the game was being played. The structure and composure that had made them so difficult to break down all season became increasingly evident as the second half wore on.

Rams needed to find a response, but struggled to match that lift in intensity. In a Grand Final where every second ball and challenge mattered, Norwest simply seemed to want possession more once they had their noses in front.

There had been very little between the teams through the opening half, but the final whistle confirmed a 2–0 victory for Norwest and the U13 Division 1 title.

It was another demonstration of why they’ve been the benchmark of this competition. The quality wasn’t just in the two finishes — it was their ability to recognise the moment the game changed, take control and prevent Rams from finding a way back.

For the Rams, falling at the final hurdle will hurt, but reaching a Grand Final is still the culmination of an entire season of football. The tackles, saves, celebrations and disappointment at the final whistle are all part of the story worth capturing — even when the result isn’t the one you wanted.

Congratulations to Norwest on the U13 Division 1 title, and to both teams on seasons that earned them a place on Grand Final day.
